Interviews with professionals at the international affairs division of the JPO and JETRO(Japan External Trade Organization) will allow me to draw an overall picture of the past, present and future of Japanese government’s stance on this controversial issue.

Thoughts on Vocational Education(5)
Vocational Education in South Korea and Australia
In Korea, as many as 70~80% high school graduates advance to colleges or universities for their higher education. Many of them just sticks to colleges regardless of their dreams or aptitude.
It is mainly because they have not been welcomed and respected by others without a bachelor's degree. Partly originated from the Confucian culture, a college degree has guaranteed job security and decent income in the Korean society.
That's why most parents push their kids to go to a college even though their sons and daughters aren't interested in an academic career. As a consequence, vocational training at the high school or higher education level hasn't been properly developed.

Reason for applying for EWKLP(2)
Reason for applying for EWKLP(East-West Knowledge Leaders Program)
In most of 2008, I mainly wrote articles about legal circles, which broadened my horizon on the importance of legal issues in the corporate side. Since late 2008, I have been engaged in the educational field, focusing on universities.
By covering both demand and supply side of education, I realized education has many things to do with business. In this time of financial crisis, universities are under the pressure of change and innovation just like companies.
So far, I spent most of my career in covering corporate sectors. I had more than 20 opportunities to look at how companies operate their business for global competition.

50 Indonesian universities first to sign up for QS Stars rating
50 Indonesian universities first to sign up for QS Stars rating
A good number of Indonesian universities show their pioneering spirit by being among the first to register for the new QS Stars rating system.
University rankings have their limitations since they often provide an oversimplified view of institutional strengths. As specialist strengths of a university are often overlooked, rankings are usually biased towards fully comprehensive institutions.
The QS Stars system is based on a rating method, which measures university performance against preset thresholds for a more thorough evaluation of each participating institution. It awards up to a maximum of five Stars.
Of the 50 Indonesian universities that have signed up, 17 have received an institutional report that details their results as measured by a comprehensive QS proprietary analysis. The rest will receive their reports by the middle of this year.
