Industry-school collaboration model of TAFE's vocational education in Australia and its implication to Korea(5)

Industry-school collaboration model of TAFE's vocational education in Australia and its implication to Korea

In Korea, as many as 70~80% high school graduates advance to colleges or universities for their higher education. Many of them just sticks to colleges regardless of their dreams or aptitude. It is mainly because they have not been welcomed and respected by others without a bachelor's degree.

Partly originated from the Confucian culture, a college degree has guaranteed job security and decent income in the Korean society. That's why most parents push their kids to go to a college even though their sons and daughters aren't interested in an academic career.

Industry-school collaboration model of TAFE's vocational education in Australia and its implication to Korea(3)

Industry-school collaboration model of TAFE's vocational education in Australia and its implication to Korea

Vocational training at the secondary and higher education level in Korea has stayed less estimated for a long time. It has a long way to go in both hardware and software aspects. If my research contributes to awaken the Korean society of the significance of up-to-date vocational education and come up with actual changes, I'll be happily taking any troubles to complete this project.

By introducing the sophisticated vocational education model of TAFE, public awareness of Australia in Korea will be expected to be higher.

High Time for Korean Startups to Ride on Digital Fever in Southeast Asia(6)

High Time for Korean Startups to Ride on Digital Fever in Southeast Asia

This could explain why global investment experts have been paying close attention to this area where youngsters covering around half of the overall population are jumping on the brand new era of digital economy.

There are yet pending issues to tackle in startup fever in Southeast Asia. Poor IT infrastructures in non-urban areas, shortage of high-skilled work forces and widespread financial illiteracy have chronically taken roots in most parts of Southeast Asia.

Heightening Work Experience and Bringing New Opportunity(6)

Heightening Work Experience and Bringing New Opportunity

Whenever it happens, looking back on good days in Hawaii, I smiled with pride and explained them the tacit knowledge. In doing so, what I learned at JAIMS will be penetrated into the entire Korean media industry and play crucial roles in enhancing the quality of articles and even spreading the importance of knowledge management into all sectors of the Korean society.

In addition, EWKLP brings me new opportunities, which was not easy or time-taking to get before. After returning to work, out of the blue, I was assigned to a newly-lunched department of my company, 'Corporate Management Section'. The new section covers corporate success or failure stories, global business trend and interviews with academic or corporate gurus in the business field.

SKKU proud of Asia's oldest university(1)

SKKU boasts of Asia's oldest university with over 600-year-long history

Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) was founded in 1398 as the highest national educational institute in the early years of the Chosun Dynasty in South Korea.

As the oldest university in Asia, it has fostered leaders of the Korean society for more than 600 years. '修己治人,' pronounced as 'Su-Gi-Chi-In,' SKKU's main ideology, teaches that SKKU students sincerely strive to perfect themselves to contribute to the society.

Old Sungkyunkwan was established over 600 years ago by royal decree to promote the scholarship in Confucianism. As a nation's highest educational institution, old Sungkyunkwan went through vicissitudes with the country it had served.

Though a long history alone cannot guarantee the excellence of an institution, the rich culture, which exudes from a profound tradition, is surely a unique and valuable asset of the school.

How I became interested in Southeast Asia(7)

Brief story of how I became interested in Southeast Asia including Indonesia

Nowadays the importance of Southeast Asia is getting highlighted as the region's economic clout has been growing in the international stage. In fact, more and more Korean people and Korean companies are turning their eyes toward Southeast Asia.

However, the presence of Southeast Asia in the Korean society is unfortunately a long way to go. This especially poses pity in the wake of the 50th anniversary of ASEAN this year. My job description for a senior researcher will be prioritized if I am lucky enough to be a part of the Mission of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN in Jakarta.

Moreover, I'd like to actively exercise my extensive knowhow on Southeast Asia, expertise of a former journalist and global sense to let the Korean public know more about ASEAN.

Thoughts on Vocational Education(5)

Vocational Education in South Korea and Australia

It is mainly because they have not been welcomed and respected by others without a bachelor's degree. Partly originated from the Confucian culture, a college degree has guaranteed job security and decent income in the Korean society.

That's why most parents push their kids to go to a college even though their sons and daughters aren't interested in an academic career. As a consequence, vocational training at the high school or higher education level hasn't been properly developed.

Enriching Work Experience and Bringing New Opportunity(3)

Enriching Work Experience and Bringing New Opportunity(3)

And it is non other than catching up with the most recent trend of advanced MBA education in the world. If not staying in Hawaii, I probably can’t have this persuasive view. Not only for articles, but also for brainstorming and daily conversation at work, the role of EWKLP training means a lot and makes me to intellectually grow as time goes by.

And needless to say, it distinguished me from other Korean journalists who covered similar area with me. After reading my unusual but sophisticated articles, colleagues both at my organization and other companies asked me what’s secret of my excellent coverage.

Whenever it happens, looking back on good days in Hawaii, I smiled with pride and explained them the tacit knowledge. Though a long history alone cannot guarantee the excellence of an institution, the rich culture, which exudes from a profound tradition, is surely a unique and valuable asset of the school.

It would be misleading, however, to view the school merely in the context of its pre-modern history. SKKU also takes pride in the school's innovative spirit. As a result of the never-ending efforts to place natural sciences on an equal footing with its strong foundation in humanities, SKKU now operates two campuses: the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus and the Natural Sciences Campus.

Relying upon a highly successful partnership with Samsung, a Korea-based leading global IT giant, which has generously funded several core initiatives, the school has been alleged to be rapidly developing and prospering since 1996. Mr. Kim Junyoung, President of SKKU stressed: "Under the catch-phrase 'Unique Origin Unique Future,' SKKU continuously pursues to integrate its foundation philosophy with the modern technology with a vision of cultivating global talents who will lead the 21st century."
